It's not like you didn't believe them or would have any reason to think that they were kidding -- it wouldn't' exactly be funny anyway -- but there is something about suddenly seeing an unexpected down pour that makes you realize the doubt that had existed before.
That happened to me recently in regards to weight loss. Obviously I have always believed that the healthiest way to lose weight is with diet and exercise. I have also always known, or believed when I heard, that counting, or limiting, calories was the best way to control weight; it just never seemed very fun. How do I know what kind of calories are in a cup of grapes? You could say that you don't need to count the healthy stuff but when the weight fails to drop off, you'll start by questioning everything that you didn't count.
So recently when I asked a dietitian, who just so happens to share the locker room with me at the gym, what I could do differently to lose weight, she looked at me apologetically and told me what I obviously already knew. Count Calories! I know, I know!
But what I didn't know is that there are hundreds of Apps out there just begging to help you count! They have endless databases of food information from menu items to generic store items to fresh produce.
So, what happened as soon as I started counting? I started losing. Hey, it really is raining!
